Feasibility Study and Engineering Design

Building Condition Survey, Accrington
Salvis were commissioned by Hyndburn Borough Council to undergo multiple projects at Scaitcliffe House to include:
- Detailed feasibility study
- Supporting an application to the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, leading to the successful award of grant funding
- Thermal modelling using IES software
- Detailed design and project management for:
- VRF for heating and cooling
- 20 kWp PV
- LED lighting throughout
Project Description
The feasibility study investigated how the Council could decarbonise the building with recommendations including:
- Retain the existing Daikin heat pump in selected areas.
- Decommission the rest of the ageing existing heat pump system and electric panel heaters.
- Replace with Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) to provide space for heating and cooling with greater efficiency. Carbon savings in Year 1 = 7.0 tCO2e
- Replace fluorescent light fittings with LED. Carbon savings in Year 1 = 4.4 tCO2e
- Extend the existing solar panel arrays with an additional 20 kWp sized system. Carbon savings in Year 1 = 2.1 tCO2e
Salvis then were asked to support the Council with their application to the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme and undertake the design and project management work for the recommended proposals.
